Due to personal ties I have been looking and thinking about the LE Breitlings with a connection with Hong Kong (the Chronomat RAF Hong Kong 1997 and the Fei Gao).
I have seen various prices so far but what would be a realistic and fair price for these?
I am asking as I want to gradually save for them so that I can one day own the pair.

Making the subject more general: what would be the added value of an LE compared with an identical (general) Breitling?

The LEs that are simply logo'd versions do not generally command a premium on the secondary market, in fact sometimes they are cheaper because they are of more limited appeal.

That's not necessarily true of the more mass market appeal ones - aircraft ones for example (although it is true of squadrons), or for the super low production runs, but a relatively high production logo Chronomat (say) should at worse be the same as a non logo version.

In the case of the RAF 1997 version it sometimes seems to be more or less the case.
For the Fei Gao I see them asking 18k-19k euro which I would say is steeply over the top.
So I should calculate with the normal second hand prices.
Thanks Roff for your opinion!

You also have to discount the Breitling Museum guy and associated companies. I think he had a Fei Gao and his pricing is ridiculous - often literally 10x true market value.

hi, i used to trade in LE breitlings, these two are not the most desirable of that type of watch, a Lancaster LE etc.. would have more value. The HONG KONG version would be around £1200 ish and the Fei a bit more, both however need the right buyer, they are hard LEs to sell, hence why you do see them around forsale from time to time. These are REALISTIC prices, the right buyer might pay more for a really good piece,

cheers SWISS1

As Roff stated the prices of the "Breitling Collector" that has this kind of stuff in stock are a bunch of dung. 19K Euro for a Fei Gao? It's got no significant following that I am aware of. I would think that the RAF Hong Kong Chronomat would be a much better choice. You should be able to buy it for under 2KUSD where the "collector" states it's worth 3 times that.

The problem I see is that the Breitling Collector has marketed the watches he has under at least 5 different organizations to give the impression that there is a market at the price he is asking. This guy alone made up the value of the Fei Gao at 19K Euro and many other watches. No one in there right mind would pay 19K. My guess is that it's worth 2500 USD max if that.

Here is one of his crazy translated justifications for the Fei Gao..

Chronomat Fei Gao Hong Kong

Limited to 188 historical edition 1997 China Hong Kong exclusively for the Middle Kingdom

On the death of Deng Xiaoping " extremely rare 1997 Hong Kong Commemorative Breitling Chronomat

never before seen in Europe

1 billion Chinese are waiting for this clock,

do not wait until they discover the Chinese,

because then you can not pay more.

If only every millionth Chinese Breitling backward begins to collect, what do you think, where the price for this clock go?

10.000, -?, 100,000 .-?, 1 million euro?, No tens of millions of euros because of the 188 existing theory come watch actually exceed 4 or 5 in the trade. The others are long in solid hands. So that not even one Chinese 100Milionste such a clock can acquire.

Are you kidding me? :uplaugh:
Trust me if the Chinese thought that this watch was worth anything they would duplicate it. Ever seen a knock off Fei Gao?

I think in general the LE's that are produced in numbers of 500 or less will command a bit more than the non LE counterparts, assuming they actually look good. If it looks like crap it won't sell no matter how rare it is.
